Subject: Important Information Regarding the Colorado Universal Service Charge
As required by the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, we are providing this notice to describe the “Colorado Universal Service Charge” appearing on your bill.
What is the Colorado Universal Service Charge?
This charge supports the Colorado High-Cost Support Mechanism (CHCSM), a state-mandated program. Its primary purpose is to ensure that basic telecommunications services remain available and affordable to customers in high-cost, often rural, areas of Colorado.
What does this fund?
The contributions collected through this rate element are used to:
- Maintain affordable local phone service in rural communities.
- Fund the expansion of broadband network infrastructure in unserved regions of the state.
How is it calculated?
The charge is applied as a percentage of your total monthly bill for in-state telecommunications services, which may include local, wireless, and in-state long-distance services. The current rate is established by the PUC and is subject to periodic adjustments.
For more information about the CHCSM and how it benefits Colorado residents, please visit the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC).
