This month, we’re excited to be talking with Giovanna Forte. Giovanna is Vice President, Human Resources at TPx and has been with the company for nearly ten years. Read on to learn more about Giovanna.
What does your role entail at TPx?
As the VP of HR, my role is to provide guidance and leadership to the HR Business Partners team, assist with employee relations issues, recruitment and hiring, oversee the daily workflow of the department, ensure we are in compliance with employment laws and regulations. HR works to create a positive work environment and ensure that our workforce is aligned with the company’s goals and objectives.
What is your favorite aspect of working in Human Resources?
My favorite aspect of working in HR is all the people I get to interact with and the opportunity to help people and make a positive impact. HR can be very challenging, it is not static, situations are constantly changing…but it allows me an opportunity to take what I know and apply it to different scenarios. It is very fulfilling to see the positive impact of HR’s work on the organization and employees. We play a role in shaping an organization’s culture, ensuring compliance with labor laws and policies and resolving conflicts.
You’ve been with TPx for several years, how has the company changed during that time?
I’ve been with TPx for nearly a decade and joined as part of the DSCI acquisition. The company has evolved so much during that time. Being part of the HR team, I’ve had the privilege to make positive changes within the company year over year. We’ve made many significant improvements in our systems and processes since I joined and are building a culture of inclusivity and teamwork.
How would you describe the culture at TPx?
Like our technology transformation, I would say our culture has also gone through a transformation for the better. It’s a culture with a strong foundation on our people and the relationships we build with one another. The teamwork that happens within the organization on a daily basis is exciting to see. Everyone is willing to jump in across functions to help another team.
What has made the biggest impact on your professional life?
I would have to say that the biggest impact on my professional life has to be all the people I have met and worked with, the relationships I have built throughout my career, and the mentors I have been fortunate to have. In HR, I am thankful to interact with professionals across different functions. Each have made an impact on my life as I hope I have made an impact on theirs.
What does diversity, equity, and inclusion mean to you and why is it important?
DE&I are essential components to creating a fair society/workplace. It’s very Important to have wide range of perspectives on situations to make sure everyone has access to the same opportunities and resources. Creating a place where everyone feels valued and respected regardless of their differences and their backgrounds. Being in HR, DE&I is especially important to ensure all our employees feel valued and have a voice. It allows us to build an environment where everyone can thrive and be successful.
What’s the one topic you never get tired of learning about?
Personal development is incredibly important to me. I enjoy learning about self improvement, how to develop new skills and knowledge, and how to achieve personal goals. The lessons and skills learned are valuable both in the office and in my personal life. Countinously learning and investing in my personal development gives me the opportunity to improve my self-awarness and self-confidence. It allows me to build stronger and more meaningful connections with others. I always tell my daughters, that everyday we have the opportunity to learn something new and grow from situations we are in. Situations may not always go the way we want them to but that no matter what there is an opportunity for growth and a life lesson learned.
What are you most passionate about outside of work?
Traveling – I love exploring new places, learning about different cultures, and trying new foods. Since my daughters were young we’ve always enjoyed jumping the the car and going on road trips and discovering new places. The girls will tell you that I am always taking pictures and will often pull over on the side of the road to take a picture of a beautiful landscape or sunset. I’ll always go the extra mile for the perfect shot to capture our memories.
How do you enjoy spending your time on the weekends?
My weekends are usually very busy. I have two daughters, both are very active in extracurricular activities. My oldest has been a dancer since she was three years old, and my younger daughter has played basketball and is now currently throwing shot put on her high school track team. Family is very important to me, I am very fortunate to live within walking distance to my grandparents, parents, siblings and their families. When I am not watching my daughters at their events I love going to watch my nieces and nephews play soccer, baseball and softball. Oh, and I can’t forget to mention, my little guy Lucky, he’s a mini poodle and shitzu mix… he’s my shadow all day long and loves to tag along on any adventures we go on!
