The cybersecurity landscape is changing rapidly. Our job at TPx is to help businesses navigate these changes to improve their security posture and be compliant with industry regulations. ACA International Partnership with TPx
This past year, there were several new adjustments to the Safeguards Rule that would impact ACA International members. TPx partnered with ACA to educate their members on these changes and what their members would need to do in order to be compliant.
What is the Safeguards Rule?
The Federal Trade Commission implemented the Safeguards Rule in 2003 with the purpose of safeguarding customer information. Nearly 20 years later, it was amended in 2021 to keep pace with current technology. Modifications to the rule include:
- Implementation of information security program as outlined in the Safeguards Rule.
- Accountability and reporting of the information security program.
- Definitions of several new terms.
- New exemptions for small businesses.
- Expanded definition of a financial institution.
All financial institutions—including collection agencies, credit counselors, check cashers, wire transferors, mortgage brokers, mortgage lenders, payday lenders, and others—are required to adhere to the Safeguards Rule by Dec. 9, 2022.
